For the last 20 years CSR Gyprock has been adding that extra touch of sophistication and finish to the homes on The Block. As the 2024 season of The Block heads into the final weeks, it’s worth looking back on some of the impressive interiors seen this year. And many of these stunning executions owe much to what is holding it all together – CSR Gyprock. Over the last 20 years, CSR Gyprock has been the supplier of plasterboard throughout the many different and diverse builds of The Block, softening the hard edges, providing the finishing touch in terms of quality ceilings and cornices, as well as adding curves in all forms – on staircases, in niches and joinery and in doorways. And this year has been no different – the houses on Phillip Island are huge and, subsequently, the demands have also been big. For example, the open-plan living and dining spaces were on such a grand scale that Gyprock had to cover 684 sqm of space alone! Gyprock products on The Block Key Gyprock products used in 2024 include the popular Gyprock Plus, Supaceil, and Gyprock Aquachek 10mm, all key products of the standard Gyprock residential range. Gyprock Plus is a premium, lightweight 10mm thick plasterboard with a thicker face paper that produces a crisper score and snap experience with cleaner cuts and squarer edges. It features Optimised Core technology, making it stronger and lighter with significantly improved board handling. Optimised Core technology also provides greater breaking strength in a substantially lighter board. Gyprock Aquachek 10mm was used in all the wet areas of the homes in Phillip Island, including bathrooms, kitchens and laundries. It is specifically designed for use as a wall and ceiling lining in wet areas of residential buildings. The core, face and back of Gyprock Aquachek 10mm are treated to make it resistant to moisture and humidity without compromising integrity. Because it is not subject to moisture movement and has extremely low water absorption characteristics, Aquachek also provides an excellent, stable substrate for ceramic tiles. Supaceil is a specialised product for ceilings and also features Optimised Core technology, which offers improved strength to ensure it will stay flatter, even when installed on ceiling joists with 600mm centres. There is also less chance of fixings pulling through the board when extra pressure from above is applied such as heavy ceiling insulation. The board’s thicker face paper produces a crisper score and snap experience with cleaner cuts and squarer edges. The Perfect Partner The smooth lines of Gyprock and Optimised Core technology make it the ideal accompaniment for Bradford ceiling and wall insulation. This allows the homes to maintain even temperatures all year round without compromising on the look of the interiors – especially important for Phillip Island, which often sees some wild weather and extreme temperatures. For homeowners looking for extra help with acoustics, Gyprock has a range of plasterboard with enhanced acoustic properties for use in homes, including Soundchek™ which can reduce sound transfer between rooms and the storeys of a home. Combined with acoustic insulation they are an ideal solution for creating quiet spaces around bedrooms, studies and home theatres. Building for the future When it comes down to it, The Block is all about real estate and creating saleable homes. Choosing quality products for the internal structure such as Gyprock Plus help to provide the new builds with a quality finish, that provide the perfect base for painting (even for novice painters like the contestants), or wallpaper. Gyprock provides tested wall and ceiling systems that assist in achieving code compliance in the areas of fire performance, acoustics and durability as well as providing high levels of performance for functional construction requirements in homes.
